Autodesk FBX (Filmbox) FBX file formats facilitate interoperability between 3D animation software such as 3ds MAX, Maya, MotionBuilder, Stingray, and many others. Update 2: It* worked! I converted my ASCII FBX to Binary, and I imported successfully into Blender 2.80. Autodesk 3ds is a 3D modeling program used for animation and simulation by gaming, film and motion graphic artists. Update: I found this page with links to Autodesk tools, including the FBX 2013.3 Converter for Windows 64-bit mentioned earlier in this thread: I'm still looking around the Autodesk site for a free tool, but it may require some trial software. I have tested the importer and exporter with about one hundred commercial FBX files which made by 3d digital artists in 3ds Max, Maya or Cinema 4D, the add-on can import and export these FBX files successfully. Supposedly there's a free tool for converting this using the Autodesk. The add-on is compatible with all FBX versions, from ASCII to binary, from FBX 5.3 to FBX 2020. When they choose ASCII, we need to covert it ourselves. We need Binary format, and whoever makes the model needs to choose ASCII to give customers all the data, or they choose binary to make it importable to Blender. Double-click the install file to launch the FBX Converter installer. It says that ASCII format is human readable, contains all the model's info, but it's not Blender-readable. Download the install file from the Autodesk web site (Select 圆4 for the 64-bit version.
